The 2020 Hometown Fair will feature a virtual battle of the bands!

The Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair Battle of the Bands competition has been a long-standing community favorite and we’re fortunate to continue the tradition virtually! Over the years we’ve seen phenomenal talent in our community. We’re proud to be a platform for them. This pandemic has been challenging for many reasons and we hope you’ll find joy and inspiration through their music.

The Illusions

The Illusions are a teen rock band from the South Bay who play classic rock from the 70’s - present. The Illusions song lists include hits from the iconic Guns N’ Roses, Journey, Pat Benatar, Ozzy Osborne, and a host of others. This group of energetic musicians originally put together at Coast Music. The Illusions have played at venues across the South Bay, including EUREKA!, Saint Rocke, and Suzy's. They also play at local schools, carnivals, and other events, such as Hermosa Valley, Alta Vista, The Hermosa Safety Fair, and Fiesta Hermosa, The Richstone Beach Party and more.

Scream Revolution

Scream Revolution is a band of 13-15 year old middle school and high school musicians who met at School of Rock South Bay LA in Redondo Beach. They have hit several stages together including Saint Rocke, The Troubadour, Stomping Grounds Music Festival, Zebulon, The B2 Battle of the Bands, The Standing Room, DiPiazza's, and Kitecta Plaza where they opened for the Chargers football game. Scream Revolution covers songs from the 80s to the present. They have released their first single titled "Babygirl" available on all music platforms. Scream Revolution is a socially-minded band that raises awareness about human rights and civil rights issues.


Surge - What happens when 3 young musicians meet who have a mutual and deep love for Van Halen, Rush, Tool and Alice in Chains? And then they forge a friendship based on making new music? You get SURGE, a teenage power trio! These SoCal rockers are dedicated to bringing authentic Rock music back into popularity.... and to the masses. Kick back, drink them in and feel the power of Surge!


Youthanize is an Alternative/Classic Rock cover band. Although they are small in size, They are big in sound. At the tender ages of 11-14, they play and perform like seasoned musicians. They have taken the stage at places such as House of Blues, Rainbow Bar and Grill, The Viper Room and DiPiazza’s to name a few. Watching these musicians captivate their audience will leave you confident that rock music is still very much alive. While most children at this age are consumed with video games, the members of Youthanize are dedicated to rehearsing and mastering their craft by studying under some of the entertainment industry’s leading “it” guys.


FIKA - Hailing from Manhattan Beach these teens deliver during their live performances. Mixing a great combination of classic rock with contemporary alternative jams they pay homage to the original artists with strong musicianship and cool attitude.

Fronted by newcomer Olivia van Doornewaard (vocals), bassist Slater Heidrich, John Forbes on guitar and drummer Dax Corcoran. These kids are already veterans of the South Bay music scene.

Individually they have played in such well-known venues as the Lighthouse Café, The Standing Room, Waterman’s, Concerts in the Park, Verte, Tower 12 and OB’s. They have been honing their musical chops in front of packed audiences!

Keep an eye out for these rockin’ upstarts as the sky is the limit for these young and talented musicians!!!

The Meerkats

The Meerkats are from Hawthorne and consist of three brothers and their two friends. The following song is a cover of Cough Syrup by Young and the Giant from The Meerkats last live performance at Patrick Molloys in Hermosa Beach in February of 2020 just before lockdown. The Meerkats play multiple instruments and all members sing. With Colin Glenn out from behind the drums to sing lead vocals, accompanied by Nick Rendon on backup vocals and bass, Aidan Delaney on guitar, and Shane Delaney on drums, here are The Meerkats playing Cough Syrup to a packed house at Patrick Molloy’s
